Nothing happens
Check the power source, wall-control lock setting, remote battery, and whether a breaker or outlet has changed. If the wall control works but the remote does not, the problem may be isolated to the transmitter or programming.
The motor runs but the door does not move
The trolley may be disconnected, the drive system may be damaged, or the door may be too heavy because of a broken spring. Stop repeated operation until the door system has been checked.
The door reverses before closing
Safety sensors may be blocked, dirty, misaligned, or affected by wiring. Resistance in the track, an obstruction near the floor, or incorrect travel and force settings can also cause reversal.
The door stops partway
A binding roller, track problem, balance issue, travel setting, overheating motor, or control fault may interrupt movement. The door and opener should be evaluated as one connected system.
What to tell a service professional
- What happened immediately before the failure
- Whether the opener makes a sound or moves the door
- Whether the door is level, crooked, open, or closed
- Any loud bang, impact, loose cable, or off-track roller
- The opener brand and approximate system age, when known
